The JFD was established in 1915 to provide fire protection to the Jamesville community. Since its inception, the department has grown into one of the best-trained and well-equipped in Onondaga County. We currently have about 30 members utilizing 7 pieces of equipment: 2 engines, 2 rescue-EMS vehicles, a zodiac water rescue boat, a utility vehicle, and a Polaris Ranger UTV.
Providing firefighting and rescue services we have the following classifications of membership: Firefighter, EMS provider, Fire Police, Junior firefighter ( RAM ), and Social member. We offer benefits that include LOSAP retirement, additional life insurance, uniforms, special events, and training. The department trains every Monday evening. Furthermore, our members can participate in additional training opportunities from the Department of Emergency Management. These courses are offered at introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels on a variety of topics.
Why Our Department
The JFD is always looking for motivated individuals to help serve the community. We are a VOLUNTEER organization comprised of YOUR neighbors and friends. We are neighbors helping neighbors.
We stand ready, every day and night, to protect lives and property. The JFD responds to hundreds of emergencies every year. During these alarms our members are prepared with personal protective equipment, communications equipment, thermal imaging and fire suppression equipment and advanced life support medical equipment. All of this equipment combined with ongoing training allows members to safely and effectively perform their duties in emergencies such as fires, vehicle accidents, flooding, and utility incidents. As a member of the JFD, you will respond to these and other challenging emergencies.
If you are interested in serving with the JFD, and looking to meet new friends while protecting your community, then this volunteer job might be for you. If you want to get involved and give back to your community, contact us by email at Recruitment@jamesvillefire.org.
