Borodino Volunteer Fire Department

The Borodino Volunteer Fire Department is a rural, not-for-profit agency located in the CNY Finger Lakes Region in the Town of Spafford, NY. We are a family-focus, community-oriented department and our volunteers are friends, neighbors, and members of our community. Borodino's first responders are responsible for providing emergency medical care and fire protection to 17.5 square miles of the Town of Spafford and its adjoining districts. Our fire district includes community residences, small businesses, and farms in addition to shorelines on both Otisco and Skaneateles Lakes. Remarkably, the population of our district almost doubles over the summer months due to seasonal homes and camps along the lakes. Even though Borodino's district serves many lake-front properties, most fire emergencies require us to haul our own water supply since most of our residents are on wells and main lines and fire hydrants are limited.

Why the Borodino Volunteer Fire Department?

The Borodino Volunteer Fire Department is a dynamic organization that offers a variety of opportunities to anyone who has an interest in volunteering! We offer firefighters, EMTs, and Scene Support Members the opportunity to obtain free professional certification and training, including learning how to drive the fire trucks, treating patients during medical emergencies, and using extrication tools during motor vehicle collisions, etc.! Borodino also offers youth throughout the CNY area the ability to join our Fire Cadet Program (ages 14-16) and RAMs (ages 16-18.) Members who train with the Borodino Volunteer Fire Department will develop skills and abilities that can be transferred anywhere across NY state and the US.

If becoming a firefighter or EMT is not your passion, The Borodino Volunteer Fire Department is always looking for men and women of all ages who can serve as Associate Members to provide behind-the-scene support that enables our organization to run effectively and efficiently. Everyone has a talent, skill, or ability that would be respected and appreciated and we'd love to have you join our team! Many of our spouses, children, parents, and friends support us at this level too! And, of course, everyone is always welcome to participate in our special events including our famous Borodino Pancake Breakfasts, Community Parades, Children's Holiday Parties, Field Days Events, etc.
