The Mattydale Fire Department covers 1.9 square miles averaging 1,200 alarms per year. While we are a relatively small fire district we are often requested as mutual aide to several other area departments. Most notably for our RIT team. The Mattydale Fire Department is the home of the Mattydale Lay, also called a "cross-lay", "speedlay", or "transverse lay" designed in 1947 by Chief Burton L. Eno. It was first installed on our 1939 Buffalo Fire Appliance Corp. "Pathfinder" fire engine, which is now located at the FASNY Museum of Firefighting in Hudson, NY.
Why Our Department
We currently have multiple Firefighters, CFR's and EMT's are in need of more! We are one of the few fire departments in Onondaga County with an ILS certification. There are lots of rewarding benefits when you become a member with us, such as training paid for by the fire district.
We have our weekley drill every Tuesday morning at 9AM and Tuesday night at 7PM, each week is something different. All equipment, uniforms and education is free. After 20 years of service we offer a retirement incentive. Members also have access to our inhouse fitness center. NYS even offers a tax credit for being an active Volunteer Firefighter. If you are not interested in being a firefighter or EMT, we could still use you in an administrative/clerical role! Please contact the station and speak with one of our members for more information or to set up a tour of our station.
Applications can be printed off on our website or done in person.
